10 Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Children

There are aspects of my wonderful three-year-old I will miss terribly as she grows up.

10 Bible Verses to Pray Over Your ChildrenChecking her tickle spots, making sure they still work and the sweet sound of giggles pouring out of her wiggly little body.

The way she cuddles up next to me in the mornings.

The feel of her hand wrapped around my finger.

When she breaks out into song when she thinks I’m not looking.

Our chats together to and from school every day.

How she knows God makes her strong and He lives in her heart.

Watching her do her “work” at the kitchen table with craft supplies everywhere.

#TaekwondoBaby! She is adorable in her uniform and when she yells hi-yah!

The beautiful way she says I love you.

I will miss these precious moments…but let me tell you what I will NOT miss…

Why is it a surprise to her that she needs to brush her teeth every morning and night?

The “We don’t hit people, that hurts, show me how you use gentle hands,” followed by being hit. Again. By my three-year-old.

Sitting with her for two hours waiting for her to fall asleep as I stare at the wall. (Good time to pray, though!)

Being kicked while putting on her shoes, because she thinks it’s funny.

Having her cry because I gave her what she asked.

How she slows down or decides now is the time to play hide and seek when we are trying to walk out the door.

Deciding she no longer likes to eat x, y, z and we have nothing she wants to eat.

I’ve had people tell me how much I will miss all of these moments when she grows up and I will long for the days, even the bad ones. I know I’m young and I have quite a bit to learn about this journey of parenthood…but I say…NOPE. Not going to miss the crummy stuff. Instead, I choose to cherish the sweet moments and treasure them in my heart.

These sweet toddler days will pass. New challenges will arise, uncomparable and probably more complicated than whether or not I get her hair brushed before school. Before I know it, she’ll discover boys don’t have cooties and she won’t turn into a pumpkin if she doesn’t go to bed before 9:00pm. Her dependence on daddy and I will transition to a strong desire for independence. To do things her way.

I say #BringItOn. I know things will be different and I may long for “simpler” times, but missing the yucky stuff? Not so much.

In the meantime, I will keep praying over my baby girl as she blossoms into the young woman God has created her to become.

Dearest Father,

My sweet child belongs to You and You love her more than I can imagine or emulate Ephesians 3:20. I pray I would not be a stumbling block to her faith, but help her grow to love You more with each passing day. 1 Corinthians 8:9

Cover her with Your armor. Guard her heart, mind, body, and spirit. Ephesians 6:11

As she grows, lead her in the direction You would have her go. May she discover quickly what You have created her to accomplish for the sake of Your kingdom. Ephesians 2:10

May each person she meets, young and old, draw closer to knowing You because of her example. Let Your light shine through. Matthew 5:16

Teach her to trust in You above else, even when her future is uncertain and she does not know where to turn. Proverbs 3:5-6

When the world tempts her heart, renew her mind so that she may live in, not of this world. Romans 12:2

At at time when everything is acceptable, help her to stand with integrity and on the firm foundation of Your Word. Psalm 25:21

May her heart seek justice and mercy according to Your will and Your ways. Micah 6:8

Lord, there will be times when her world feels like it is crashing in around her. Be her peace, her rock, and comfort. Psalm 46:1-2

All this and more, trusting in Your plan for her life. Amen.
