Hell. We are wary of anyone who brings it up because were afraid it will be nothing but fire and brimstone. And there’s a place for fire and brimstone, but were aren’t going there today. Hell isn’t our favorite topic, but it cannot be ignored, there are too many lives at stake.
Instead, here are three simple truths we need to understand as believers when we’re talking about h-e-double-hockey-sticks.
1. Hell is real and it’s permanent.
We are talking eternal separation from God and eternal suffering. Think about your worst Monday ever and Hell lasts longer! There is no coming back. There’s no Tuesday morning or weekend break. Hell is the permanent result of a temporal life of rejecting God’s grace. Mark 9:48 , II Thessalonians 1:9, and Revelation 14:11
2. Real people will go to hell.
Our friends and neighbors and even members of our own family, it could be our children, our spouse, parent, or sibling. We all know someone who’s path is leading them away from the one true God and the free gift of Salvation through the cross of Christ. This breaks my heart in two. It breaks God’s heart as well, which is why He willingly sent His only Son to die so that we would have life. Daniel 12:2, Matthew 7:13, Matthew 25:41, John 3:36, and Revelation 20:15
3. We can make a difference.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit instilling faith in Jesus Christ and the waters of Baptism, we stand redeemed before the Lord. You may read this and already know the Truth. The burden we share as believers is to share Jesus with others so that they may be saved. Matthew 28:19-20, Colossians 4:5-6, 2 Timothy 4:2, and 1 Peter 3:1.
Choose someone you love who doesn’t know the Lord and commit to praying for them over the next month. Send them a postcard, letter, email, text or call them each week to encourage them. Pray for your heart to be infused with the Holy Spirit and your words to pour out like honey so that they may know, believe, and be saved!
In the comments below, list their name OR simply type “I’m in.” We can all lift one another up in prayer as we boldly share Jesus with the world. Let’s tell Satan he can just stay in h-e-double-hockey-sticks…
In my next post I will share nine ways you can share Jesus with confidence! How do you share your faith?
I will be lifting up my dear friend Jennie. It will be a challenge partly because she literally lives on the other side of the planet, but also she believes all faiths lead to everlasting life. It’s a risk writing her name in this post if she reads this, but I am willing to take the risk, because I’m asking you to do the same.
